The daddy of Free Jazz and Spiritual Jazz, Pharoah showed no signs of slowing down when he played Gothenburg in 2003. His final release Promises (2022) with Floating Points was every bit as fiercely original as any of his work — a fitting epitaph to a true and much missed original.
