Designed by Craig Jamieson, this print celebrating a legendary turning point in rock history, capturing Jimi Hendrix at the exact tipping point where he transformed from an underground London sensation into a global icon. The band arrived in Gothenburg armed with a wave of momentum, as their groundbreaking debut album Are You Experienced had been released in the UK just a week prior on May 12, 1967, and their breakout single Hey Joe had officially hit American airwaves on May 1 of the same year. This historic appearance launched the band's highly anticipated 1967 Scandinavian Tour, serving as their first-ever performance on a Swedish stage and laying the foundational buzz that would lead to their massive American breakthrough at the Monterey Pop Festival just one month later.
The venue itself adds a rich layer of rock lore to the artwork, as Gothenburg’s famous Liseberg Amusement Park was a vital European hub for international pop and rock acts throughout the 1960s. On May 19, 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience played a completely sold-out double concert inside Liseberg's historic Konserthallen, sharing a star-studded bill with pop icon Cat Stevens, a gig famously remembered for an intense backstage argument over who would claim the prestigious headlining slot. This historic night initiated a deep, lifelong love affair between the legendary guitarist and the city of Gothenburg, where Hendrix would return to perform at Liseberg a total of seven times throughout his short career, culminating in his final concert in Sweden on Liseberg’s Stora Scenen on September 1, 1970, just 17 days before his tragic passing.
