Göteborg Jazz T-Shirt (Olive Green)

Designed by Craig Jamieson and drawing inspiration from the bold typographic style of 1950s design, this limited-edition t-shirt celebrates Göteborg's long and enduring love affair with Jazz.

From New Orleans Jazz, to the big band era, through to the development of Bop, the latest American recordings flowed into this port city where fans were eager to hear the latest transatlantic innovations. This influence was not lost on home-grown talent, with musicians such as Jan Johansson, Lars Gullin and Monica Zetterlund developing a distinctly Swedish idiom, most notably ‘Folk Jazz’.

The Jazz Illuminati who have played Göteborg is prodigious — from Louis Armstrong to Duke Ellington, Count Basie to John Coltrane, Charlie Mingus and Thelonious Monk. Through current venues such as Unity Jazz Club, Utopia Jazz, and the Gothenburg institution Nefertiti, this is an influence which continues very much to this day.
